Directions: From Colorado Springs, take US 24 west to Divide, CO. From Divide, turn south (left) on Colorado 67 for 4.3 miles. After passing the entrance for Mueller State Park on your right, watch for the sign “Crags Campground 3/5 miles” on your left. Follow this road to the Crags Campground and turn left into the campground and follow it to the end where you will find a parking lot and a sign for the Crags trail.
Description: The first 0.5 mile contains a moderate incline and the trail lies between the pine trees. The next mile contains less incline. Toward the end of that mile you will see a large rock formation on your left side and a stream on your right side. In wintertime, the stream will be hidden underneath the snow. The next 0.5 mile leads you up another moderate incline and back into the woods. This part of the hike is a nice challenge as it’s quite steep and the air draws thin. As you reach the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking views of the rocky mountains. You can see two lakes below you as well as the surrounding rock formation that give the trail its name. Please view our blogs regarding our hiking experience on this trail.
Suggestions: Always carry enough water to avoid dehydration. In wintertime, the trail is mostly covered with snow. Thus, we recommend wearing water-proof boots and shoe spikes or snowshoes. Either way would help preventing slip and fall.
