Although the trekking poles are not essential to hiking, I borrowed my husband’s and I love using them. They help keeping my balance while hiking in the snow, especially when going downhill. With an upcoming backpacking trip, I worry about my weak knees. An experience hiker once recommended that I use two poles while backpacking because the pole help taking more weight off the knees and also provide more balance especially when carrying a heavy backpack.
With that in mind, Travis bought a new pair of poles: Leki Corklite AERGON SpeedLock Trekking Pole.
If interested in buying a pair, look for a pair that has a twist lock, which allows you to adjust the pole to a desirable length. Most of them poles have a foam grip, which is recommendable as they help prevent any soreness between the thumb and forefinger from holding the poles in a long period of time. They also should have waist straps to prevent dropping or losing them. If carrying a backpack, look for the strap made for carrying your poles when not in use.
If you are in mood to splurge, try these poles if you’re interested in hiking in the snow or backpacking!
