Description: Since I experienced a heel injury, I decided to buy a new pair of boots with ankle support. After trying few pairs, I bought a pair of Stynger GTX Hiking Boots. My boots have a water-resistant suede upper plus the nylon mesh deliver, promising flexibility and support while remaining breathable. During a 14 mile hike on a weekend, my boots remain dry, flex well and support my ankles.

Inside my boots, the ankle cuffs are padded and comfortable. I feel no pinching nor lace tightening against my skin. The bellows tongues are also padded, so the laces can be tightened without discomfort on my shin. Stynger GTX Hiking Boots also has hard rubber toe bumpers that protects your feet against impact and abrasion. Once I had to climb over a snow-covered hill, knowing that there are rocks underneath the snow. I like how I can easily kick my boots in the snow to climb over without worrying about hurting my feet if I kick into a rock.

Stynger GTX Hiking Boots have a lightweight EVA midsoles, which provides cushioning comfort and shock absorption, especially when hiking on rocks or uneven terrain. I usually experience discomfort on my heels and ankles, but not when I wear this pair of boots. The salesperson who I spoke with said that this pair has an active heel support that offers shock absorption and full heel support and control. Perfect! To prevent an injury of heel slipping, he also showed me a neat trick of tying shoelaces without being too tight. It tightens the ankle cuffs well while the shoelaces are not too tight below the ankle cuffs. This trick prevents my feet from slipping up and down to the front, which causes friction between my heels and the shaft of my boots. (See pictures below)

The outsoles of Stynger GTX Hiking Boots are made of durable rubber that gives  maximum downhill grip and grip on uneven terrain. I trust these boots because I’m paranoid of injuries caused by slip and fall.

Stynger GTX Hiking Boots aren’t lightweight but are great for ankle support especially during backpacking trips. I feel comfortable and secure with this pair of boots, so I highly recommend them to friends.

Merrell Siren boots

Merrell Women's Siren Song Mid Sport GORE-TEX ShoesI love this pair of boots. In fact, I find them so comfortable that I have worn them on each hike throughout the past year. Along with their superior comfort, I have enjoyed their versatility. They are designed for traditional trail hiking in a moderate climate. However, I wore them while hiking in the snow on two different occasions, and both times, they have kept my feet dry and sufficiently warm.

Like many of you, I usually suffer from soreness in my feet and my knees after a long hike. For this reason, it was important for me to find a pair of boots that were well cushioned and comfortable. Since I have started using these boots, I have not experienced any soreness nor leg cramping. They key feature being the built-in air cushions, which do an excellent job of absorbing shock.

However, my socks were soaked when I wore them for snowshoeing once. My feet were wet and cold. Therefore, I’d recommend this pair of boots for anyone who is looking for a comfortable pair of trail hikers, particularly for use in a dry climate only.

Smartwool Socks

Smartwool Women's PhD Outdoor Light Crew Socks I am in love with this pair and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in buying a pair that would keep their feet warm and dry. The wool they use keep my feet warm, and at the same time, they resist moisture, which is a great combo because I usually have sweaty feet. Another feature that I like is the cushioning in the shins and soles. I feel like I’m walking on the clouds. I also like the roominess, and they do not sag nor slip.
It is supposed to be shrink-free; however, mine shrunk a little after I washed them. Maybe it’s my new dryer that over-dries. Regardless, I think that it is better to hang them dry instead.
